Women's Cross Country
The top Eagle runner at each race this season to date, Chappelear has been a great addition to the GMC women's cross country team after transfering from Stetson University in Florida. She earned her best finish of the year at the JSC Invitational when she completed the 5K course in fourth place. Her pesonal best time of the year came at the Keene State College meet when she ran in a time of 21:07.
A Sustainable Agriculture major with a 3.6 GPA, Chappelear someday hopes to run an educational farm where she can teach people about growing local foods and health and nutrition. She is hoping to spend this coming summer working on the Cerridwen Farm on campus and next fall study agriculture in Costa Rica! She also spent this past summer helping her mom start an urban gardening program in her hometown of Maplewood, N.J. to provide local food banks with fresh foods each week.
Chappelear is heavily involved in the community as one of the athletics main photographers. She is also hoping to start a program with the Poultney High School that would help develop a running club for high school girls to get out and run and talk, learn about health issues and also discuss other issues. The intent is to create a type of peer mentoring program/running club. In addition to that she is looking into starting a running club on campus for students to join during the winter. When she is not out in the community, Chappelear devotes her time as a member of S.A.A.C. helping with events that the Club puts on.
