FARMINGTON, Maine – Green Mountain College women's cross country team raced to a 7th place at the 2017 5K North Atlantic Conference (NAC) cross country championship on Saturday afternoon at Mt. Blue HS that was hosted by the University of Maine at Farmington.
Colby-Sawyer (43) won the event followed by UMaine-Farmington (60) and Castleton (71).
In fourth place was Husson (141) followed by Lyndon State (164), Maine Maritime (169), Green Mountain (180), New England College (226), Johnson State (230), UMaine-Presque Isle (263) and Thomas (341).
Green Mountain was led by a trio of freshman. Maggie Hickey (Chesterville, Maine) was at the forefront as she posted a time of 23:45 which placed her 27th overall. Hickey was followed by Margaret Scognamiglio and Indira Palmer who placed 35th and 37th, respectively in times of 24:25 and 24:32.
Sophomore Jiayong Chen (San Francisco, Calif.) finished next in line for the Eagles with a 44th place finish in a time 25:19.
Senior Anneli Brandt (Tulsa, Okla.) captured 62nd place overall with her finish of 27:01 over the 5K distance while junior Elise Anderson (Hampstead, N.H.) finished just behind in 67th place in a time of 27:32.
Freshman Annie Baker (Fayetteville, N.C.) and senior Miranda Bailey-Russomano (New Haven, Conn.) closed out the contingent of Eagle runners. Baker finished in 28:47 which placed her 75th overall while Bailey-Russomano grabbed 90th spot with a finish of 32:20.
