CASTLETON, Vt. – The Green Mountain College women's cross country team placed fourth as a team at the Castleton Invitational 5K on Saturday morning among the 11 team field which saw 66 runners compete.
Freshman Maggie Hickey again (Chesterville, Maine) paced the Eagle runners with a sixth place finish in a time of 23:01 shaving over a minute off her time from the first meet of the season. Hickey was in the low teens midway through the race but excelled over the final distance to pick up several places.
Junior Katelyn Mann (Pine Bluff, N.C.) ran a solid race and finished second on the team with a 13th place showing in a time of 23:43, while freshman Margaret Scognamiglio (Scotia, N.Y.) ran the 5K race in a time of 25:19 showing good pace throughout.
Freshman Indira Palmer (Deering, N.H.) grabbed 33rd overall with a time of 26:37, while sophomore Jiayong Chen (San Francisco, Calif.) finished in 36th spot in a time of 26:43 using her consistently increasing pace to move from the rear to mid-pack throughout the course of the race.
Junior Elise Anderson (Hampstead, N.H.) improved on her first result by capturing a 40th place finish in a time of 27:39 knocking more than a half minute off her personal best.
Freshman Annie Baker (Fayetteville, N.C.) completed the contingent of seven Eagle runners as she completed the course in a time of 29:39 which was good for 53rd overall.
The Eagles will race again in Vermont next Saturday as they compete in the Badger Invitational with race time starting at 10:30 am.
