Womens Cross-Country 2nd At Johnson St.

(September 5, 2009) - Johnson, VT - The Green Mountain College women's cross-country team opened the 2009 season with a 2nd place finish at the Johnson St. Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles finished behind NAC rivals Castleton (15 points) with 54 points followed by Vermont Tech (71) and Johnson St. (81).
Castleton nabbed the top 5 spots followed by GMC's top finisher junior Nicole Horvath (Fort Edward, NY). Horvath finished the course in 14:43, 1 minute 50 seconds off the pace. Freshman Whitney Rose (Kalamazoo, MI) finished 19 seconds behind Horvath in 9th while fellow newcomer Taylor Conley (Yorktown, VA) nabbed 10th just 2 seconds behind Rose.
Sophomore Bridget Combes (Londonderry, NH), freshman Teal Cummisk (Dickinson, ND) and sophomore Elissa Fiore (Lebanon, PA) finished 14th-16th, respectively. Rounding out the top finishers for GMC was freshman Kelly Silin (York Beach, ME) in 19th with a time of 16:06.
The Eagles return to action Saturday, September 12th when they travel to SUNY Cobleskill. The women's race is set to start at 11:00 am.
