Eagles Swept in Doubleheader Action on Saturday

CASTLETON, Vt. – Green Mountain College lost both ends of its doubleheader on Saturday matching up against Becker College and Castleton University. 

The Eagles suffered a close 3-1 loss to Castleton in the game's opening match. The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead with a close 25-23 decision before handing back three-straight sets with scores of   25-11, 25-17 and 25-23.

Estela Felix Almeida (South Gate, Calif.) posted a double-double to lead the offense with a season-high 14 kills while also adding 14 digs. Junior Sharena Armstrong (St. Thomas, V.I.) emerged as an offensive threat adding seven kills while hitting at a .400 clip. Freshman Madison Wheeler (Lyndeborough, N.H.) led the defensive efforts by digging up a season-tying-high 19 digs and adding four kills. Freshman Caroline Gay (West Palm Beach, Fla.) supplemented the defense with 18 digs and two blocks. Freshman Bryanna Hopple (Shippensburg, Pa.) steered the team's offense with a season-high 20 assists.

Green Mountain (1-5) was outhit in its second match against Becker to close out the day's action losing 25-17, 25-14 and 25-10.

Felix Almeida again led the offense with six and five aces while also leading the team with 12 digs. Wheeler supplemented the defense with 11 digs while adding a pair of assists on offense. Hopple directed the offense with eight assists while adding eight digs. Armstrong was efficient in the frontcourt hitting .200 with a pair of kills.

GMC will host Lyndon on Wednesday for its next match, a non-conference tilt scheduled for 7 p.m.
