Eagles Split on Dig Pink Night

(October 22, 2009) - Castleton, VT - Green Mountain College split a pair of matches against Johnson St. and Castleton Wednesday night easily dropping JSC 3-0 and battling to a tough 3-2 defeat against the hosts in women's volleyball action.  GMC finishes the regular season with a 10-11 mark (3-4, NAC).

GMC cruised to victory over JSC, turning in wins of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-4. Olesea Cojohari (Balti, Moldova) turned an impressive 13 service aces to lead the Eagles. Cojohari also added 12 assists and four kills. Emma Brinley Buckley (Lakeville, CT) led the attack with 12 kills on 21 attempts and also piled up four aces. Melanie Rodriguez (Hoboken, NJ) added seven kills in the contest.

Beth Lilligreen (North Kingstown, RI) led the Badgers with two kills.

In the final match of the night with both squads donning pink uniforms as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Spartans came from 2-0 down to defeat the Eagles 22-25, 24-25, 25-20, 25-17 and 15-12.

Jamie Lemieux (Argyle, NY) led the Spartan attack with 15 kills and added six blocks and 16 digs on the defensive side in the win. Ashley Kepaa (North Attleboro, MA) added 13 kills and 19 digs while setter Jennifer Vibert (Farmington, CT) chipped in 26 assists.

Emma Brinley Buckley had 17 kills and six service aces for the Eagles, and also added 26 digs for the defense. Melanie Rodriguez also had 26 digs to go along with her 16 kills.

Jen McGuire (Nutley, NJ) led the way with 19 assists, while Olesea Cojohari added 15.

The Eagles are guaranteed a spot in the upcoming conference tournament.  Pairing will be released following the conclusion of the final conference matches this weekend.
