Eagles Falter In Volleyball Opener

(September 4, 2009) - Poultney, VT - The Green Mountain College women's volleyball team dropped their season-opener 3-1 to SUNY Cobleskill Friday evening.  The Fighting Tigers improve to (1-0) on the season.

Cobleskill came out firing, recording 7 straight points before the Eagles would get on the board.  GMC only mustered 6 points in set one, losing 25-6.

The two teams were knotted at 10 in the second set before Cobleskill pulled in large part to sophomore Natasha Lyons (Dolgeville, NY) who recorded 4 consecutive points for the visitors and finished the day with 13 kills.  The Eagles battled back to 13-17, but eventually dropped the set 25-18.

GMC entered set three with renewed energy, taking an early lead.  Seniors Olesea Cojohari (Balti, Moldova) and Emma Buckley (Lakeville, CT) lead the way on both sides of the ball.  Leading 23-19 late in the game, the Eagles were able to hold of a Cobleskill charge to send the match into a fourth set.

Cobleskill again raced to an early lead (6-1) and never relinquished control taking set 4 25-18. 

The Eagles return to action Tuesday, September 8th at 7:00 pm when they travel to Paul Smith's College.
