JOHNSON, Vt.- Green Mountain College suffered a 7-2 setback against Johnson State College in non-conference women's tennis action on Sunday.
Green Mountain (1-3) got off to a good start picking up a win in top flight doubles action as the pairing of Claire Chapman (Litchfield, Conn.) and Jannelle O'Connell (Colrain, Mass.) won their match 8-5.
Unfortunately, that was the only win the Eagles would take out of the three doubles matches as Paige Vlahos (Little Silver, N.J.) and Lauren Coye (Plainstow, N.H.) lost 8-3, while Ruby Santiago (Worcester, Mass.) and Danjung Yoon (Daejeon, South Korea) were upended, 8-2.
O'Connell posted her second win of the afternoon in third flight singles action with a hard-fought 6-2, 7-5 victory.
Top flight singles action saw Vlahos fall in straight sets to her opponent with a pair of 6-1 set losses. Chapman split the first two sets in her second flight singles match 7-5, 4-6 before falling in the super tie-breaker 10-8.
Coye lost her number four singles match with a pair of 6-0 set losses, while Santiago similarly fell in straight sets losing, 6-1, 6-2.
Yoon took the loss in sixth flight singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat.
The Eagles will play Castleton on Tuesday in the team's first North Atlantic Conference match of the year.
