Eagles Drop Season Opener to Sage

TROY, N.Y. – The Green Mountain College women's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 loss to Sage Colleges at Prospect Park on Saturday afternoon.

Jannelle O'Connell (Colrain, Mass.) and Claire Chapman (Litchfield, Conn) were bumped in first flight doubles 8-3. Paige Vlahos (Little Silver, N.J.) and Lauren Coye (Plainstow ,N.H.) were defeated 8-0 in the number two doubles spot. Finishing up the doubles action was Ruby Santiago (Worcester , Mass.) and Dan Jung Yoon (Daejeon, South Korea) who also dropped their match 8-0.

Vlahos fell in top flight singles 6-1, 6-0. O'Connell was topped in number two singles 6-1, 6-2, while Chapman fell in the third flight 6-0, 6-3. Coye suffered a pair of 6-1 set losses in the number four singles spot, while Santiago and Yoon each were handed defeats in fifth and sixth flight singles, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.

The Eagles will travel to face Castleton in a non-conference match on Tuesday, September 5 at 4 pm.
