Castelton Downs Eagles 6-0

(October 17, 2009) - Castleton, VT - Castleton forward Courtney Chadburn (North Clarendon, VT) netted three goals and added an assist to help defeat Green Mountain College, 6-0, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's soccer action at Spartan Stadium Saturday eveing.

With the win, Castleton improves to 8-5-2 overall and 6-0-0 in NAC play on the season while the Eagles fall to 4-7-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the NAC.

Freshman midfielder Sarah Ethier (Portsmouth, RI) opened the scoring for the Spartans heading in a goal off of a Chadburn free kick from 15 feet out.

Chadburn tallied the next two goals for Castleton with a header in the 31st minute of play off an Ashley Ledoux (Swanton, VT) assist and a penalty kick in the 36th minute.

Freshman Megan Blongy (Rutland, VT) assisted on a Maria Arnot (Milford,

NY) marker in the 53rd minute, as well as Chadburn's third goal of the game, less than one minute later. Lindsay Sedore (Craftsbury, VT) rounded out the scoring with an unassisted tally of her own rebound in the 79th minute.

Green Mountain mustered just three shots on the game, and put only one on goal that Ericka Davis (Cambridge, VT) turned away without issue to earn the shutout.

Castleton held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks and a 27-3 advantage in the shot column. Karen Davidson (Seymour, CT) started in goal and made eight saves through 56:55 minutes of work for the Eagles, before being relieved by Chelsea Paul (Northville, VT) stopped three shots over the final 33:05 of play, yielding one goal.

The Spartans are unbeaten in their last nine games, going 8-0-1 over that span, while allowing just three goals. In six home games thus far, Castleton is 5-0-1 and has not allowed a single goal.
