Biggs Powers UMFK Past Eagles

(September 26, 2009) - Poultney, VT - Freshman Theresa Biggs (Cape Town, South Africa) scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the visiting Bengals of Me.-Fort Kent to a non-conference women's soccer victory Saturday afternoon. The UMFK remains perfect on the season at 6-0 while the Eagles fall to 1-5.
Biggs opened the scoring in the 6th minute when she finished on a corner from sophomore Whitney Sinclair (Dexter, ME). The Bengals continued to pressure GMC and found a second goal in the 18th minute when Sinclair took a tidy ball from junior Angela Norsworthy (Presque Isle, ME) and beat GMC goalkeeper Karen Davidson (Seymour, CT).
GMC responded 8 minutes later when sophomore Erin Burch (Lenanon, CT) burst through the middle of park and slid a ball to Taylor Riso (Portland, OR) for her team-leading 4th goal of the season.
The Bengals, however, would tally their third first-half goal in the 30th minute through Biggs, effectively putting the game out of reach.
UMFK salted the game away in the final 45 minutes, scoring a pair of goals 2 minutes apart in the 77th minute (Marie-Michele Lachance, Ste. Jerome, QC) on a penalty kick and again in the 79th minute (Sinclair).
The Bengals out-shot the Eagles 19-7, forcing Davidson into 9 saves while junior Mindy Morneault (Eagle Lake, ME) stopped 3 shots for UMFK.
The Eagles return to action with a pair of NAC road games next weekend against Me.-Farmington (Saturday, October 3rd) and Thomas College (Sunday, October 4th).
