Eagles Drop Home Opener

(September 2, 2009) - Poultney, VT - The visiting Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College spoiled the 2009 women's soccer home opener for the Green Mountain College Eagles claiming a 2-0 victory. With the win, CSC improves to (1-1) while the Eagles fall to (0-1).
The home side began the match with a spell of sustained pressure, however, the Chargers began asserting themselves midway through the first half. After winning a corner kick, CSC broke through when GMC sophomore goalkeeper Karen Davidson (Seymour, CT) was unable to corral the service from Charger senior Laura Sansoucie (Haverhill, MA). The ball fell to freshman Sarah Lavalle (Newton, MA) who calmly headed home at the back post in the 38th minute.
Colby-Sawyer continued to pressure and found the back of the net three seconds from the half-time interval. Freshman Melissa Hynds (Derry, N.H.) found fellow freshman Laurel Bauer (Bradford, N.H.) in the center of the park who struck the ball on the half-turn from 27 yards, beating Davidson on the near post.
The second half featured much of the same with CSC maintaining pressure and creating numerous chances. The Chargers outshot the Eagles 27-2 on the afternoon, forcing Davidson into 11 saves.
The Eagles return to action Saturday, September 12th at 2:00 pm when they host Plymouth State.
