Eagles Race to 2nd

(September 26, 2009) - Farmington, ME - Junior Nicole Horvath (Fort Edward, NY) finished in the top 10 for the second time this season, leading Green Mountain College to a 2nd place finish at the University of Maine Farmington Saturday afternoon. Horvath covered the 5k course in 23:21, 15 seconds off her best time, but good enough for 8th place overall out of the 40 competitors.
UMF swept the top 4 spots, taking the team title with a score of 15 total points followed by GMC (58), and Maine Maritime (70). Johnson St. and Thomas were also represented, but failed to record a team score. UMF's Molly Carl was the overall champ finishing in a blistering 21:47.
Freshman Whitney Rose (Kalamazoo, MI) was 2nd for the Eagles, finishing in 12th overall (24:15) while recording a personal best. Freshman Taylor Conley (Yorktown, VA) also recorded her top time of the season in 25:09, good enough for 21st, followed closely by sophomore Bridget Combes (Londonderry, NH) in 22nd (25:37). Freshman Kelly Silin (York Beach, ME) rounded out GMC's top 5 in 24th (25:55).
GMC takes to the course next Saturday, October 3rd at the Vermont State Meet in Johnsonville, VT.
