GMC 7th at Vermont Championship

(October 3, 2009) - Johnson, VT - Junior Nicole Horvath (Fort Edward, NY) once again lead the GMC women's cross-country team, posting a 36th place finish at the Vermont Intercollegiate Championship Saturday afternoon in Johnson, VT. Horvath covered the 5k course in 22:46, 4:03 behind individual champion Claire McLlvennie (Middlebury College). The Eagles captured 7th/8, 7 points behind Norwich University in 6th.
Middlebury College recorded a perfect score of 15 to capture the team crown, 40 points ahead of the University of Vermont (2nd). St. Michael's nabbed third (75) followed by Castleton (147), Lyndon State (160), and Norwich University (180).
GMC freshman Whitney Rose (Kalamazoo, MI) was 2nd for GMC finishing the course in 23:32 for 45th overall. Kelly Silin (York Beach, ME), Elissa Fiore (Lebanon, PA) and Cristie Durand (Killingworth, CT) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles in 59th, 2nd, and 65th, respectively. Silin's recorded a personal-best time of 25:17, edging her previous mark of 25:29 by 12 seconds. Fiore also bested her previous top-time (25:56) with a 25:44.
The Eagles return to the course Saturday, October 17th when they host the GMC Invitational. Race time is set for 11:00 am.
