Beavers Oust GMC From NAC Tournament

(October 31st, 2009) - Farmington, ME - The fourth-seeded University of Maine at Farmington women's volleyball team moved on in the North Atlantic Conference tournament with a 3-2 first-round victory over Green Mountain College today at Dearborn Gymnasium. The Beavers (10-10) advanced to the NAC championship round Nov. 7 at Maine Maritime Academy. Farmington is scheduled to face the top-seeded Mariners (20-5) at 10 a.m. The Eagles ended their season at 10-12.

After winning the first two games (25-17, 25-19), Farmington needed to fend off a Green Mountain rally to advance. The Eagles took the third and fourth games (26-24, 25-14) before the Beavers notched a 15-12 win in the decided set.

Emily Beebe (South Paris, ME) and Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) each notched 13 kills for Farmington. The Beavers also benefited from a solid service game with 24 aces, led by Katie Allen (Bucksport, ME) and Whitney Walls (Bar Harbor, ME) with eight apiece.

Defensively, Rowan and Walls each collected 16 digs with Beebe and Caitlin Flaherty (Plymouth, MA) each earning 12 digs.

Emma Brinley-Buckley (Lakeville, CT) led Green Mountain with 19 kills, 18 digs and nine solo blocks, while Olesea Cojohari (Balti Moldova) added 11 kills and Melanie Rodriguez (Hoboken, NJ) recorded 10 kills and 20 digs.
