First-Half Burst Propels Panthers

(September 12, 2009) - Poultney, VT - The visiting Plymouth State Panthers and host Green Mountain College Eagles combined for an astonishing 6 goals in the opening 10 minutes in women's soccer action Saturday afternoon. GMC, however, found themselves on the wrong end of the score line, losing 8-2 in non-conference action. The win propels PSC to 2-0-1 while the Eagles remain winless at 0-2.
The scoring began in just the 4th minute when junior Rachel Kindl (Granby, CT) corralled a service and finished from inside 6 yards. The Eagles would respond just over 3 minutes later when sophomore Taylor Riso (Portland, OR) leveled the score after a textbook counter attack.
The visitors waited only 14 seconds to reclaim the lead through senior Lauren Lavery (Nashua, NH). PSU tacked on 2 more goals in the next 1:29, grabbing a 4-1 lead less than 10 minutes in the match. GMC would notch their second and final goal of the afternoon in the 10th minute when freshman Kimberly Blank (West Lebanon, NY) finished neatly from close range.
PSU would add 4 goals after the interval. Lavery and junior Rebecca Wilson (Clinton, CT) each added a pair and accounted for 6 of the visitors 8 goals.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday September 16th when they travel to New England College for their final tune-up ahead of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference opener.
