Tietgens First-Half Brace Sinks Eagles

(September 24, 2009) - North Adams, MA - Junior Jess Tietgens (Stamford, VT) and Freshmen Brianna Dandurant (Amesbury, MA) each accounted for two goals as MCLA cruised by Green Mountain College 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at Shewcraft Field.   MCLA has now won five straight games to improve to 5-2 while the Eagles fall to 1-4.

Tietgens opened the scoring just one minute into the game when she scored an unassisted goal beating Eagle keeper Karen Davidson (Seymour, CT) to the left side of the net.  She tallied her second of the half at the eleven minute mark taking a service from senior Harmony McGorman (Orleans, MA) putting MCLA ahead 2-0.  Dandurant would net her first collegiate goal just before the interval first-timing a Jade Prickett (Westhampton, MA) throw-in past Davidson.  The GMC goalkeeper was under siege for much of the opening 45 minutes as MCLA mounted 18 shots, 8 of which found their way on frame.

The Eagles came out strong in the second half and immediately cut into the MCLA lead when sophomore Taylor Riso (Portland, OR) beat freshman keeper Kate Tsapatsaris (Peabody, MA) to the left corner just 40 seconds into the second half.  MCLA would withstand the pressure and eventually wear down the Eagles.  Dandurant put the game on ice, scoring her second goal of the afternoon in the 83rd minute.

The Trailblazers held a decisive shot advantage, tallying 37 shots on the afternoon.   Davidson, who was under heavy pressure, registered 20 saves in the loss, many coming from close range.  Sophomore Jen Wehner earned the win in net as she saved 8 shots in the first half before being relieved by Tsapatsaris for the second.

GMC returns home for a non-conference fixture against NAIA opponent Me.-Fort Kent on Saturday, September 26th at noon.
