The Eagles finished second out of 11 during both days of giant slalom racing this weekend at Killington Vermont.  Over 4 total days of racing this 2009 season, the women have captured 2^nd on three occasions.

The morning run on Saturday witnessed a fine team effort from the ladies, with Amanda Malkin (Highland Falls, NJ), Rebecca Steinhauer (Winchester, MA), and Diann Wetzel (Highland Falls, NY) finishing within 1 second of one-another.  Malkin led the way in 46.08 (17^th overall) followed by Steinhauer (46.61/20^th overall) and Wetzel (46.84/22^nd overall).  Bridget Combes (Londonderry, NH) finished in 1:06.46 good enough for 69^th place. 

In the afternoon run, the women placed 3 of 4 in the top thirty led by Steinhauer who turned in the 11^th fastest time at 47.43.  She improved her season-best 20^th place finish last week by cracking the top-20 with a 15^th place finish overall in a time of 1:34.04.  Malkin, while slightly slower in the 2^nd run, managed to solidify 20^th place in a combined time of 1:36.43 while Wetzel snagged 25^th overall with a time of 1:37.64.  Combes improved her position to 65^th overall with a total time of 2:26.28.

On the second day, the women once again improved their individual results and Malkin earned the first podium finish of the year.  He two-run total time of 1:36.83 was good enough for 3^rd, a scant .19 out of second and 1.80 from claiming victory.  Steinhauer turned in two fantastic runs for her season-best finish of 14^th in 1:40.45.  Wetzel also improved on the day, up to 20^th with a combined time of 1:45.33.  Combes was disqualified during the first run and received no time. 

The ladies finished 2^nd overall for the 3^rd consecutive race, all of which have been won by Castleton State College.  GMC returns to the hill next weekend, January 24^th/25^th,  for 2 days of slalom races at Bromley Mt. in Peru, Vt.
