The women's alpine ski team opened the 2009 ECSC Thompson Division season this weekend with an opening day 9^th place finish out of 11 teams in the two-run slalom event at Killington, VT.  Freshman Diann Wetzel (Highland Falls, NY) led the way with a strong 18^th place finish in a time of 1:17.38.  She was closely followed by sophomore Rebecca Steinhauer (Winchester, MA) in 22^nd place with a combined time of 1:19.32. Freshman Bridget Combes (Londonderry, NH) finished with a time of 2:28.79 good enough for 72^nd place.  Sophomore Amanda Malkin (Highland Falls, NJ) was 28^th after the first run, but did not finish the second run.

 The second day of competition was a vast improvement for the women as the claimed second spot behind cross-town rivals Castleton State College.  Wetzel again paced the women with an 17^th place finish coming across with a combined time of 1:24.74.  Malkin finished in 19^th  less than a second behind Wetzel at 125.60 and Steinhauer joined her teammates in the top-twenty with a 20^th place finish just 38 hundredths behind Steinhauer at 125.98.
