Beavers Hold of Eagles

Despite a second half surge by Green Mountain College, the visiting Beavers of Me.-Farmington held on for a 73-62 victory Friday evening. UMF shot 52.6% in the second half and 50.9% on the night and drilled 7 of 17 three-pointers.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to (8-7) on the season and (2-4) in NAC play. The Beavers improve to (9-8) and a perfect (7-0) in conference play.
UMF opened the game with a (12-5) run spanning 2:20 and never let up as they led by as many as 19 points before closing the half with a 16-point advantage (42-26).
The Eagles closed the gap to single digits (37-44) at the 15:23 mark of the second half, but could not come any closer the rest of the way.
Senior Christina Chamberlin (Woodstock, VT) led the Eagles with 17 points and was a perfect 11 for 11 from the free throw line. Sophomore Molly Hopper (Gouvernor, NY) added 18 points while junior Emma Buckley (Lakeville, CT) recorded a double double (10 points and 11 rebounds) and blocked 5 shots.
A trio of UMF players reached double-digit points led by junior Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) who netted 22 on 9 for 17 shooting from the field. Senior Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) added 15 points and made 6 of 7 field goals while Samantha Wiley (Camden, ME) scored 10 points and recorded 3 assists for the Beavers.
The Eagles return to action Saturday afternoon at 2pm when they host the Terriers from Thomas College. UMF travels to Castleton for the second of their 2 weekend conference games tomorrow afternoon.
