Castleton stumbles at home versus Green Mountain

The Castleton State College women's basketball team
lost to visiting Green Mountain College 47-41 in North Atlantic
Conference (NAC) action Tuesday evening at Glenbrook Gymnasium.
It
marked the first win for Green Mountain at Castleton since the
2001-2002
season.
Green Mountain held a slim 24-23 lead at halftime, as Brittany
Holden
sunk a 15-footer with 5 seconds remaining to take the lead.
A Mary Nienow three-pointer just 10 seconds into the second half
gave
the Spartans a lead they would not relinquish until 1:20 remaining
in
the game. Jess Banks canned one of her three three-point field
goals to
give Castleton a 41-35 edge with 4:16 remaining in the contest, but
the
Eagles ended the game on a 12-0 run to grab the win.
Molly Hopper was instrumental down the stretch, scoring six of
her
game-high 14 points over the final four minutes of play. Natalie
Clark
added 10 points for the 10-10 (4-6 NAC) Eagles, while Christina
Chamberlin chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.
Christine Jaques led the Spartan offense, scoring 11 points off
the
bench on 5-of-6 shooting. For the game Castleton was limited to
just 30%
(16-for-53) from the field. Banks finished the game with nine,
while
Laura Cary added eight as Castleton falls to 12-9 overall and 7-3
in
conference play.
Both teams will travel to Maine this weekend for a pair of
conference
match-ups. Castleton will take on Maine-Farmington Friday night at
7:30,
followed by a 3:00 pm tip-off at Thomas. Green Mountain will take
on
Thomas at 8:00 Friday night, and tip-off at Maine-Farmington
Saturday at
4:00.
