GMC Crowned Regional Champions

Poultney, VT (February 23, 2008) - In the Championship game of the women's basketball Association of Division III Independents Conference Northeast Regional Tournament, the #1 Green Mountain College Eagles hosted #2 College of Saint Elizabeth Eagles.  Saint Elizabeth played in last night's semi-final round beating Southern Vermont 73-66 to get this far.  Today's match up, played at Green Mountain's Eagle Dome, found the host to be too much to handle in the first half with the score 38-15 heading into the locker room.  The second half saw the Eagles from Saint Elizabeth finding the bottom of the net more often but not enough to overcome the 23 point deficit.

Saint Elizabeth was led by first year center Maesoon Deeb (Linden, NJ) who recorded a double-double on 11 points and 10 boards.  Junior guard and All-Tournament selection Jessica Dixon (Linden, NJ) scored 10 and senior All-Tournament selection Jamese Baker (Elizabeth, NJ) scored 7 and rebounded 10.

Green Mountain saw a double-double out of All-Tournament selection junior forward Christina Chamberlin (Woodstock, VT) with 19 points and 16 rebounds.  Sophomore forward and All-Tournament selection Emma Buckley (Lakeville, CT) chipped in 12 and blocked 6 while junior guard and tournament Most Outstanding Player Brittany Holden (Schenectady, NY) dropped in 16 and dished out 8 assists for the win.

Saint Elizabeth ends their season at 16-12 while Green Mountain finishes at 17-7.
