Eagles Take Home AD3I Title

NEW LONDON, CT - The Eagles win the Northeast Independent Tournament with a walk off 3 run homer by FR Amanda Malkin (Highland Lakes, NJ). The game was scoreless for the first three innings. In the bottom of the 4th GMC got on the scoreboard when Malkin got on base because of an error, FR Nancy Laughlin (Pittsford, VT) was walked, JR Christina Chamberlin (Woodstock, VT) put the ball in play and forced Newbury to commit another error to have bases loaded with no outs. SO Hilary Dernier (Seattle, WA) then hit a line drive down the first base line that was too tough to handle and Malkin scored and everyone else was safe. JR Natalie Clark (West Palm Beach, FL) came up to bat feeling a little pressured until Laughlin scored on a passed ball, Clark then laid down a perfect bunt for an infield single and to load the bases again with only one out. SR Kait Petros (Tewksbury, MA) hit a hard line drive right up the middle that was misplayed in the outfield to score 3 more runs. The next two batters got out, but the damage was done and GMC was up 5-0. In the 5th, neither team scored and only Chamberlin got a hit for either team. In the top of the 6th Newbury got one hit but couldn't get past first base. Then in the bottom of the inning, JR Jess Houck (Cortland, NY) led off with a walk, Clark had another infield single, and Petros flew out for the first out. JR Brittany Holden, (Schenectady, NY) singled, SO Katie Jablonski (West Rutland, VT) flew out to the outfield but no one was able to tag. Malkin stepped up with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd and slammed one over the centerfield fence for her 8th homerun of the season and to end the game.

GMC had 8 hits in the game, walked 3 times and struck out 4, but were able to tie some hits with some timely errors to score the runs needed.

Holden got the win, allowing 4 hits, and walking 1. The defense backed her up well, only committing 2 errors.

Leading the way offensively was Holden and Clark with 2 hits each. Petros and Malkin both had a hit and 3 RBI's. While Chamberlin and Dernier had a hit a piece.

Petros and Malkin were named to the all-tournament team while Holden was named Most Outstanding Player for the tournament. GMC ends the season at 15-18, after a slow 1-7 start. The Eagles had a great weekend by winning 3 in a row to become the AD3I Northeast Champions!
