Eagles advance to Final in Slugfest
NEW LONDON, CT - GMC advances to the Championship game of the Northeast Independent Tournament by beating the 5th seed UMPI 13-11. This was a game of hits and runs as both teams combined for 23 hits and 24 runs. GMC was able to control most of the game. In the 1st inning UMPI went up 1-0, due to 2 hits, 2 walks and an error. GMC answered in the bottom of the inning with 3 runs on 3 hits, a walk and a hit batter. In the second inning, UMPI went down 1-2-3. SR Kait Petros (Tewksbury, MA) led-off with a homerun for the lone run of the inning. Neither team scored in the 3rd. In the 4th inning UMPI scored 1, GMC scored 3, to put the Eagles up 7-2. Both teams then scored 3 in the 5th. Going into the 6th GMC was in control 10-5, however UMPI was not ready to give up and scored 6 runs to go up 11-10. In the bottom of the 6th, the Eagles were calm and composed and were able to get 3 runs to go back on top. JR Natalie Clark (West Palm Beach, FL) led off with a single, Petros followed with a single, JR Brittany Holden (Schenectady, NY) got on by an error which scored Clark. SO Katie Jablonski singled to score Petros and advance Holden to scoring position. FR Nancy Laughlin (Pittsford, VT) then grounded to second to score Holden and put GMC up by 2.
JR Brittany Holden (Schenectady, NY) got the win for GMC allowing 10 hits, walking 4 and striking out 3.
Offensively Petros led the way going 4-5. FR Amanda Malkin (Highland Lakes, NJ) and Holden each added 2 hits.
