Rivier downs Green Mountain 15-8

Boxscore

(Nashua, N.H.) - Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Amanda Atwell (Raymond, N.H.) each scored four goals to help lead Rivier College past Green Mountain College 15-8 today in non-conference women's lacrosse action Sunday.

The Raiders outshot the Eagles 40-16, including 32 shots on goal, and picked up 44 ground balls compared to just 25 for the visiting Eagles.

Green Mountain (2-2) got on the scoreboard first when Johanna Douglas (Essex, Conn.) scored on a free position shot, but the Raiders answered just two minutes later on a Natalie Bonvie (Salem, N.H.) free position goal to tie the game.  The Raiders (4-1) scored three more times before Green Mountain could add a second goal.  The home side kept the pressure on, going up 8-3 on a Atwell free position shot to lead the teams into the half.

Douglas came out of the half and again scored the first goal on an unassisted play, but it seemed for every one goal Douglas would score, the Raiders would score two.  Alyssa Renaud (Goffstown, N.H.) and Atwell scored less than one minute apart to give the Raiders a 10-4 advantage that would never be surrendered.  Green Mountain tacked on four more goals in the half, but couldn't keep pace with the Raiders who added another five goals to ensure the victory was safe.

Along with four goals, Atwell notched a team-high four assists while Wickens added one assist to her four goals.  Bonvie added three goals and one assist while Renaud chipped in with two goals in the win.  Goalkeeper Caleigh Bertolaccini (Chelmsford, Mass.) made three saves on the day.

Douglas scored five times for the Eagles to lead all scorers and Amanda Malkin (Highland Lakes, N.J.) added two goals and an assist in the setback for Green Mountain.  Kelsy Allan (Jupiter, Fla.) took the loss in net giving up 15 goals and recording 17 saves.

Rivier will travel to Emmanuel College to take on the first-year Saints on Wednesday, March 30th at 7:00 pm while Green Mountain will travel to Castleton on March 31st for a 4:00 match-up.
