Eagles improve to 2-1

The Green Mountain College women's lacrosse team defeated St. Joseph's College(CT) 13-7 in West Hartford, CT to improve to 2-1 on the young season. The Blue Jays struck first just 22 seconds into the contest as sophomore attack Pauling Huynh (Hamden, Conn.) took the opening draw to the cage to put the home team up early.  The Eagles, however, would retaliate with four consecutive goals including two straight from first year attack Amanda Posey (Columbus, Ga.) to make it a 4-1 game with 22:05 to play in the half. SJC junior attack Emily Johnson (Avon, Conn.) would pull the hosts within two, 4-2 with just over 20 minutes to play in the half. 

Green Mountain would close out the half on a 6-1 run as Posey struck once more along with a trio of goals from sophomore Amanda Malkin (Barrylakes, N.J.); the Eagles led 10-3 at the intermission.

In the second half, the sides traded goals throughout as Johnson and DeDufour had scores for the Blue Jays while Erin Burch (Lebanon, Conn.) struck twice for the Eagles as Green Mountain held on for the 13-7 victory.  In goal, SJC senior Kaylee Santuccio (Wethersfield, Conn.) turned away 20 shots in the loss while GMC keeper Kelsy Allan (Jupiter, Fla.) stopped six saves in her second victory of the season.

DeDufour finished with three goals while Johnson tallied a pair of tallies and five caused turnovers.  The Blue Jays forced 23 turnovers and grabbed 21 ground balls. The Eagles took a 14-8 advantage in draw controls and cleared on 17-of-19 chances.
