Women's Lacrosse Ends Season on High Note

The Green Mountain College women's lacrosse team concluded their 2009 campaign Friday afternoon by beating Daniel Webster College 12-6. The Eagles finish the season with a 5-5 record.
Amanda Jeffers (Homer, N.Y.) tallied a game high seven goals and added one assist for GMC (5-5), while Erin Burch (Lebanon, Conn.) added four goals and Celie Dagesse (St. Petersburg, Fla.) scored one.
Shawna Kavanagh (Abington, Mass.) led the Eagles (1-9) with three goals and an assist, while Natalie Bates (N. Kingstown, R.I.) added three scores.
Kelsy Allan (Jupiter, Fla.) made eight saves for Green Mountain, while Jenny Ozug (Westport, Mass.) stopped eight shots for Daniel Webster.
Burch put the visitors ahead 2:17 into the contest but Kavanagh would follow at the 4:22 mark to tie it.
Dagesse notched her lone score off a free position shot 22 second later and Burch and Jeffers would follow in the seventh and 11th minutes for a 4-1 game.
A Bates score and a Burch tally 13 second apart made it a 5-2 game and Kavanagh cut it to 5-3 at the 18:10 mark.
But Jeffers would follow with strikes in the 21st and 25th for a 7-3 lead at the half.
Jeffers made it 8-3 2:09 into the second frame, but the Eagles answered with Kavanagh in the 34th and Bates in the 46th for an 8-5 game.
But Burch would score once and Jeffers twice in the span of three minutes for an 11-5 game to take control.
Bates added her third of the day with 5:45 remaining and Jeffers closed out the scoring 36 seconds later.
Daniel Webster close out their inaugural season Monday hosting Thomas College at 4:00 p.m.
