Castleton rolls to 22-4 win over Green Mountain

Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College women's lacrosse
team
placed 11 different players in the scoring column en route to a
22-4 win
over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC)
action
Thursday afternoon.
Marie VanDerKar opened the scoring 25 seconds into the contest,
taking
the opening draw to the house for her sixth goal of the season.
Castleton scored nine unanswered goals over the opening 12:35 of
the
contest, capped by Stephanie Pearce's unassisted marker with
17:25
remaining in the half. Erin Burch put Green Mountain on the board
22
seconds later, making good on an 8-meter free position attempt.
Green
Mountain's Amanda Jeffers followed an Angelica Mazzola tally to
make
it 10-2, but the Spartans ended the half on a 6-0 run to take a
16-2 lead
into halftime.
Pearce and Nicole Adams paced the Spartan offense with three goals
and
three assists, while VanDerKar added three goals and one
assist.
Elizabeth Haggerty scored three goals off the bench, while
Aimee
Goulette and Stephanie Paproski each added two goals and one
assist.
Katelyn Greene also had two goals, while the Spartans received
single
tallies from DeeDee Schroeder, Mazzola, Jennifer Macari and
Kaitlin
Hayes.
Jeffers led the 2-2 Eagles with a pair of goals, while Amanda
Malkin
rounded out the Green Mountain Scoring.
Castleton improves to 2-1 as Angelica Mazzola stopped five shots in
the
first half to pick up the win, giving way to Rebecca Duszak for
the
final 30 minutes.
Kelsy Allan stopped eight shots in the loss.
The Spartans are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel
to
Becker College for a 1:00 pm New England Women's Lacrosse
Alliance
tilt. Green Mountain will play host to Norwich on April 1 at 4:00
pm.
