POULTNEY, Vt. – Alayna Felix scored 20 points and had 14 rebounds to help lead Maine Maritime Academy over Green Mountain, 71-34, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Eagle Dome.
Maine Maritime (4-3, 2-2 NAC) started out of the gates quickly with six-straight points with Felix accounting for four of the six.
Green Mountain (1-6, 0-5 NAC) battled back to narrow the early deficit to 6-4 on a jumper from Keegan Hill (Hagerstown, Md.).
That momentum was quickly reversed as the Mariners proceeded to go on a 15-0 run covering the remainder of the first quarter and into the beginning of the second. The Eagles' Taylor Hill (Ronceverte, W. Va.) ended the run on a put back layup at the 7:44 mark of the period. The Mariners outscored the Eagles 24-18 in the quarter to take a commanding 41-20 lead into the break.
Felix (14) and Melinda Ogden (11) each tallied double-digit points in the first half for the visitors while Rideout and Hill each notched six for the hosts.
Maine Maritime held the Eagles to 5-of-25 from the field in the second half and scored 30 second half points en route to victory leading by as many as 38.
Felix's double double led the Mariners while Ogden notched 14. Reilly Smedley led the reserves with seven points.
Rideout led the Eagles with 14 points, four boards and three assists. Taylor Hill grabbed 10 rebounds in addition to her six points while Keegan Hill led the bench players with four points and five boards.
Maine Maritime took advantage of GMC's turnovers scoring 30 points off their miscues and dominated the glass with a 54-34 advantage.
The Eagles will host Johnson in its last game of the 2017 portion of the season on Tuesday with game time slated for 7 p.m. Maine Maritime will reconvene after the break for its next game as it takes on Trinity on December 29th at 2 p.m. as part of the Hat City Classic Tournament.
