Eagles Fall in Back End of Maine Trip to Mariners

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball sailed to a 75-26 victory over Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play inside of Smith Gymnasium.

The Mariners held the Eagles to just four points in the first quarter, to build a 20-4 lead, and outscored Green Mountain 16-6 in the second quarter to take a 36-10 lead into halftime.

Maine Maritime's Alayne Felix led all players with 10 points in the first half.

The Mariners never looked back, building a 53-19 lead entering the fourth quarter and cruised to the 75-26 victory.

Caitlin Kane and Felix led the Mariners with 20 points each. The total marks a career-high for Kane, who also added three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Felix contributed a team-high eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Melinda Ogden added nine points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist. 

Taylor Hill led the Eagles with eight points, Berlanda Dely pulled down a team-high eight boards and Mercedes Rideout dished out a team-leading three assists.

The Mariners improve to 12-11 on the season and 8-8 in the NAC, while the Eagles fall to 0-21 overall and 0-16 in the conference. The Eagles return to action on Thursday, February 16 at Johnson for a 7:30 pm NAC matchup.
