Eagles Look to Snap NAC Winless Streak

(Poultney, VT) - The Green Mountain College women's basketball team heads to Maine Friday night at 8:00 pm for a North Atlantic Conference match-up against Thomas College. While both teams are winless in the conference, GMC holds a 5-10 overall record while the Terriers are 1-13.
The Eagles are coming off a tough 50-54 loss on Tuesday night to their cross-town rival Castleton State College Spartans. Despite a game-high 25 point effort from freshman Chelsea Paul (Northville, NY) and nearly 79% shooting from the field, and a perfect 2-of-2 from three point land, the Eagles could not overcome their 30 turnovers.
Going into Friday night's game Emma Brinley Buckley leads the NAC with 14 boards per game (7th in NCAA) and a staggering 71 total blocks on the season averaging 4.9 per game ( 1st NCAA Division III). Paul is leading the Eagles in the scoring column, tallying 17.4 points per contest (3rd, NAC) on 48 percent shooting from the field.
The Terriers enter the contest having dropped three games on the trot. Recently, Thomas lost a tough 79-69 road NAC matchup at Johnson State. Despite Karin Bird's (Lee, ME) near double-double with 21 points and 8 boards, the Terriers were unable to hold on to a first half 8-point lead. Bird shot 5-of-8 including 1-of-2 from beyond the arc while remaining perfect from the line at 10-of-10 in free-throws.
Two other Terriers reached double digit scoring in their game against Johnson; Mallorie Blankney (Fairfield, ME) notched 14 points while Kellie Martel (Cambridge, ME) dropped in 13.
Last season, the teams split their two regular season contests, each picking up a win on their respective home courts.
The Eagles will continue conference play on Saturday when they take on the University of Maine Farmington at 4:00 pm.
