Trailblazers Hand Eagles 3rd Straight Defeat

(Poultney, VT) - The visiting MCLA Trailblazers had 11 different players score and shot 46.6% from the field en route to a 65-52 victory in women's basketball action Thursday night.  The Trailblazers run their record to 10-3 while the Eagles fall to 5-6.

GMC opened the game on a 10-4 burst, limiting the visitors to a pair of field goals in the first 12:21, but MCLA would battle back to knot the score at 14 with just over seven minutes remaining in the 1st half.  A jumper by sophomore forward Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) with 7:10 on the clock gave the Trailblazers a 16-14 lead they would not relinquish, finishing the first half with a 35-24 advantage.

Nine players found their way onto the score sheet for the visitors in the opening stanza who shot 47.1% from the field while limiting the Eagles to 28.6%.  GMC's Chelsea Paul (Northville, NY) tallied 12 of her game-high 21 points and grabbed 7 boards in the 1st half to keep the Eagles close. 

The Trailblazers opened the final 20 minutes with a 14-4 run over the span of 8 minutes sparked by a pair of jumpers from Wehner to grab a 49-28 lead.  MCLA cruised for the remainder of the game to claim the win, converting 24 GMC turnovers into 19 points. 

Wehner led the way for MCLA, tallying 14 points, five boards and one block while sophomore Alie Dobrovolc (Little Falls, NY) dropped 12 on 5-7 shooting from the field.  Laura Silverman (Ballston Lake, NY) grabbed a team-high nine boards and Hilary Perks (Saugerties, NY) dished five assists.

Paul notched her 2nd double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 boards while chipping a pair of assists and blocks in the losing effort.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday when they travel to Johnson St. for a North Atlantic Conference matchup against the Badgers.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
