Boxscore
(Johnson, VT) - Green Mountain College turned the ball over 23 times, dropping their 2nd consecutive North Atlantic Conference contest 45-40 Tuesday night to Johnson State College. JSC got just enough offense down the stretch to hold off the Eagles and move to 4-9 and 1-1 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Green Mountain falls to 5-7 and 0-2 in the NAC.
The pivotal segment of the game was the final four minutes of the first half when the Badgers close on an 8-2 run to take a five-point half time lead. Johnson would not again trail. GMC would close to within one-point twice in the 2nd half at the 16:54 mark and at the 6:12 mark. But big set of plays by reserve Abby Stuart (Deering, NH) when she buried a 3-point field goal with 2:31 left to play to give JSC a four-point lead and then on the defensive possession collected a steal after which Andrea Deuell (Milton, VT) canned a pair of free throws to make is a six-point margin with 1:41 to go and help seal the win.
Johnson was paced by Maria Gleason's (Enosburg Falls, VT) 11 points while seven other Badgers scored between three and six points. Green Mountain's Chelsea Paul (Northville, NY) tallied a game-high 20 points while adding eight rebounds and Emma Brinley Buckley (Lakeville, CT) tossed in eight points to go with 13 rebounds and seven blocks.
The Eagles return to action this weekend when they host Maine Maritime Academy on Friday at 8:00 pm and Husson University Saturday at 4:00 pm.
