Eagles Lose 3rd Straight

The GMC women's basketball team lost a non-conference game at MCLA this afternoon 83-67.  The loss is the 3rd straight for the Eagles who drop to (6-5) on the season.

Early in the first half, the Eagles found themselves trailing 10-5 before they battled back to lead 11-10.  The Trailblazers, however, would respond with a run of their own, putting them up 24-16.  In the final 5 minutes of the first half, MCLA maintained a double-digit lead, closing out the half up 50-34.  The hot shooting of freshman Alie Dobrovolc (Little Falls, NY) (6-7) and freshman Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) (6-8) fueled the trailblazers who tallied 23-40 from the field and shot 57.5% on the night.

The second half started with neither team scoring over the opening 3 minutes.  MCLA responded first and extended their lead to 21 points before Green Mountain cut the deficit to 8 points with 7 minutes to go.  The two teams traded baskets over the next 4 minutes, but GMC was unable to close the gap any further.  MCLA led by 9 with less than three minutes to play, forcing the Eagles to foul down the stretch.  The second half was even at 33-33.

Leading the way for MCLA was Dobrovolc with 23 points and Wehner with 18 points and 15 rebounds on 8-10 shooting.

GMC placed five players in double figures led by sophomore Molly Hopper (Governeur, NY) with 15 points, senior Christina Chamberlin (Woodstock, VT) added 14 points on 6-12 shooting and senior Brittany Holden chipped in with 13 points.  Junior Emma Buckley (Lakeville, CT) contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 6-8 from the free throw line and senior Natalie Clark added 10 points in the lose.

GMC will host conference rival Johnson State on Tuesday at 6 pm.
