GMC Picks Up Conference Win
The Green Mountain College Eagles halted their 3 game losing streak and picked up a crucial North Atlantic Conference victory Tuesday night over the visiting Badgers from Johnson State.
After a slow start where GMC fell behind (12-4) 5 minutes in, the Eagles held the Badgers scoreless over the next 6 minutes of play, taking a 19-12 lead. JSC battled back after going on an 11-6 run and drew within 2 points, 23-25, by the interval.
Over the course of the second half, the Eagles began to assert themselves defensively, holding JSC to 28.2% shooting while collecting 3 blocks. GMC shot 37.5% in the second and pulled away mid-way through, not allowing the Badgers the opportunity for a late comeback.
Offensivly, GMC spread the scoring and four players finished the game in double figures. Junior Emma Buckley (Lakeville, CT) led the way with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 7 blocks. Senior Christina Chamberlin (Woodstock, VT) added 14 and 10 rebounds while Brittany Holden (Schenectady, NY) chipped in 10 while dishing 7 assists. Senior Natalie Clark (West Palm Beach, FL) scored 10 and was (2-3) from behind the arc.
The Badgers were led by junior Claudia Martineau (Washington, VT) who notched 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Eagles return to action this weekend with a pair of NAC road contests at Husson and Maine Maratime.
