Green Mountain tops Anna Maria 86-55

PAXTON, Mass.-- Freshman Molly Hopper had 17 points and 12 rebounds to pave the way for Green Mountain College, as they defeated the Anna Maria College women's basketball team by the score of 86-55 at the Fuller Activities Center on Sunday afternoon. With the scored tied 8-8 early in the first half, the Eagles went on a 17-2 run with Hopper contributing six points and five rebounds during the stretch. From there, Green Mountain didn't look back, building a 30-point lead by halftime, 51-21. The Eagles continually capitalized off of the AMCATS mistakes in the first half, turning 12 AMC turnovers into 19 points. GMC also controlled the paint during the first period, scoring 26 points inside, while also running in transition to the tune of 12 fast break points. Freshman Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) did her best to try and bring the AMCATS back in the second half, scoring 14 points on four three-pointers while also pulling down five rebounds. As it turned out, it wasn't enough, with the Eagles holding on for the 86-55 victory. Hopper led the way for the Eagles with her double-double, while senior Natalie Clark (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and freshman Ashley Day (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) each had 14 points. Junior Emma Buckley (Lakeville, Conn.) also had a strong game, scoring nine points and collecting a game-high 15 rebounds. Hevy paced the AMCATS leading all scorers with 19 points while also grabbing six rebounds and two steals. Freshman Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block, while Sophomore Emily Nugent (Worcester, Mass.) contributed 11 points and a team-high six assists. The win improves the Eagles overall season record to 2-1. They will host New England College on Saturday at 6:30 pm. The AMCATS fall to 0-4 with the loss and will look to bounce back when they host Mt. Ida next Sunday at 2:00 pm.
