GMC Trips Up So. VT
BENNINGTON, VT - This was a rematch of the second game of the season for the Mountaineers and the Eagles. This time however, SVC had all their big guns-the first time they played with five, and were missing two of their three best. SVC had a packed gymnasium ready to see another win. Many times throughout the game it looked like this just mgiht happen. The Eagles on the otherhand had a different idea.
Although the game was not pretty for GMC-34 turnovers-the game never got out of reach. The largest lead either team had was 6. The Eagles maintained composure throughout the whole game regardless of the score. Going into halftime SVC was leading 28-27. The second half was much the same, back and forth, but with about 1 minute and 30 seconds to go GMC went ahead for good. SO Emma Buckley (Lakeville, CT) hit 2 big free throws to put the Eagles up by 2 (51-49). Then GMC got a stop, looked long and hit FR Molly Hopper (Governeur, NY) for a lay up. GMC got another stop and JR Brittany Holden (Schenectady, NY) was fouled and hit one of two from the line. GMC was up 54-49 at this point, GMC fouled and put SVC on the line, which they hit 2 of 2. SVC fouled again, this time sending SO Christin Louras (Rutland, VT) to the line, only to see her sink both. This gave GMC a 56-51 advantage with 10 seconds to go-SVC went coast to coast to get one more hoop before the horn sounded.
GMC was led by JR Christina Chamberlin (Woodstock, VT) with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Buckley added 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 blocks. Holden chipped in with 11 points and 9 assists. The Eagles held a 50 -36 advantage on the boards.
