Amanda Malkin Paces Ladies With a 5th Place Finish

Sophomore Amanda Malkin (Highland Falls, NY) recorded her best finish this season on Saturday racing to a 5th place finish in the Thompson Division giant slalom at the Dartmouth Raceway.  Malkin turned in the 4th fastest time in the second run propelling her to 5th in a 2-run combined time of 2:21.92. 

Sophomore Rebecca Steinhauer (Winchester, MA) turned a 23rd place finish (2:28.83), finishing 2nd among the GMC racers.  Freshman Diann Wetzel (Highland Falls, NY) raced to a 30th place finish (2:30.88) while Bridget Combes (Londonderry, NH) finished 76th out of 88 racers (3:24.13). 

As a team, the Eagles finished 4th, a scant .25 seconds out of third.

The ladies returned to the Dartmouth Raceway for 2 more runs of giant slalom on Sunday and were once again led by Malkin who finished the day in 16th with a time of 2:19.30.  Steinhauer improved on her Saturday result turning in a combined time of 2:23.87, good enough for 19th.  Wetzel also cracked the top 25 with a 24th place finish (2:27.20) while Combes improved to 65th (3:16.20).

GMC placed 3rd on the day, nearly 4 seconds ahead of 4th place Trinity College.

With only one weekend of races remaining, GMC sits 3rd out of 12 teams with 29 points.  Castleton leads the division having won every race to this point while Boston University has a firm grip on second with 22 points.
