Terriers Sweep Green Mountain

The Thomas College Terriers were able to sweep the visiting Green Mountain College Eagles on Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference Softball doubleheader, winning the first game 1-0 (8 innings), and taking the second by a 6-1 margin. The Terriers improve their record to 13-16-1 overall (10-4 NAC), while the Eagles drop to 8-20 overall (3-11 NAC).
Game 1
In the opener, extra innings would be needed to declare a winner. After six innings of scoreless action, the game went to the seventh inning where the Terriers would be able to manufacture a run through the international tie-breaker rule, which set the previous inning's final out, Mallorie Blakney (So. Fairfield, ME), on second base. Sarah Estes (So. Brewer, ME) would sacrifice Blakney to third, and with one out, Blakney would score the winning run on a wild pitch.
Jordan Kennedy (Fr. Detroit, ME) struck out nine and allowed just three hits to pick up the win for the Terriers, while Brittany Holden (Sr. Schenectady, NY) allowed just four hits in the loss.
Game 2
Green Mountain College would strike first by posting a run in the second when Karen Davidson (Fr. Seymour, CT) would open the inning with a single, advance to third after an error and sacrifice bunt, and then come around to score on a Chanleigh Casey (Fr. Granville, NY) putout.
The Terriers bounced back quickly, scoring two runs in the next half inning. Clements would reach base on an error to open the inning, followed by a line-drive single by Kaymala Eells (So. Otisfield, ME). Clements would advance to third on a wild pitch, and then score on a passed ball. Eells would score next on an Alexandra Kriegel (So. Winslow, ME) putout at first.
Thomas would increase their lead in the fourth, posting two more runs. Clements opened the inning with a single, and then would score on an RBI triple by Oxley after advancing to third on a wild pitch and sacrifice bunt by Eells. Kriegel drove in Oxley from third with an RBI double.
The home team would add two more runs to extend their lead in the fifth inning. Morin opened the inning with a single before Nicole Chinnock (Fr. Mechanic Falls, ME) and Clements would each walk to load the bases. Morin and Chinnock would both come in when Oxley reached base on an error. The two runs in the fifth would be the last of the game, earning the Terriers the 6-1 victory and sweep on the day.
Sara Pavento (Fr. Glenburn, ME) picked up the win for the Terriers while Holden pitched for the Eagles.
