Crose fires perfect game in softball sweep of Green Mountain

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - Freshman pitcher Sam Crose (Assonet, Mass.) threw a perfect game in six innings of work with 15 strikeouts to lead the Skidmore College softball team to a 8-0 win in game one of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.  Skidmore also took the nightcap, 11-1.

The Thoroughbreds are now 10-7 this season, while the Eagles fall to 2-8.

Crose did not allow a hit or give up a walk in the opener and began the game with nine straight strikeouts.  She finished with 15 strikeouts out of 18 batters faced in the contest.

Skidmore posted three runs in the first, one in the second, and two in the third and sixth innings to force the eight-run rule to take effect in the bottom of the sixth inning and end the game.

Sophomore Charlotte Evans (Pawling, N.Y.) led the Thoroughbred offense, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored.  Ari Manstein (Elkins Park, Pa.) also had three his for the home squad with three runs scored.

In game two, Skidmore pounded out 12 hits including seven for extra-bases to take the 11-1 win in the sixth inning. Ahead 5-0 in the sixth inning, the Thoroughbreds plated six runs in the inning capped off by a triple from Evans to seal the win.

Evans finished with five RBI and two runs scored in the win and was 3-for-4 at the plate.  Sophomore Caiti Ketcham (North Clarendon, Vt.) had three doubles with one RBI and two runs scored. 

Christina Chamberlin and freshman Karen Davidson each had hits for Green Mountain with junior Katie Jablonski scoring the squads lone run.

Freshman Molly Canavan (Blue Bell, Pa.) threw a solid game in the nightcap for Skidmore, giving up just two hits and one earned run in six innings of work for her first collegiate win. 

Skidmore will play at The Sage College in its next contest on April 8 at 3:30 p.m.
