Eagles Ousted by Trailblazers

The visiting MCLA Trailblazers tallied 26 runs Thursday afternoon, claiming victory in both games of the non-conference double-header (10-1) and (16-6).

In the first game, MCLA batted through the lineup in the 1st inning, scoring 5 runs on 6 hits including a double by freshman Kaitlyn Dano (Schoharie, NY).  The Eagles responded in the bottom of the first by loading the bases, but were unable to capitalize.

The Trailblazers tacked on 4 more runs in the second, putting the game beyond reach.  The Eagles lone score in the opening game came in the second inning after a pair of throwing errors.

In the second game, the Trailblazers once again struck early, tallying 3 runs in the first on a 3-run homer by Rachel Desautels (Readsboro, VT).  Green Mountain drew level in the bottom of the inning after drawing 3 walks and a pair of singles.

Heading into the top of the 4th, the Eagles trailed (5-4), but MCLA blew the game wide open with a 10-run inning.  The Trailblazers again batted around totaling 8 hits.

Reigning NAC player of the week Katie Jablonski (West Rutland, VT) went 3 for 6 on the day including a double in the second game.  Senior Brittany Holden (Schenectady, NY) pitched both games for Green Mountain before being relieved in the 5th inning of game 2, and went 2 for 4 from the plate.

With the victories, MCLA improves to (6-10) on the season while the Eagle's drop to (2-6).  Green Mountain travels to Skidmore Saturday for a non-conference double-header at 2:00 pm.  MCLA next squares off against Lyndon State April 6th at 3:00 pm.
