Eagles Nab Conference Win

The Green Mountain College softball team picked up a conference victory in the opening game of a doubleheader at Lyndon State Tuesday afternoon, 14-5 (5 innings). The Eagles plated 10 runs in the top of the first and pitcher Brittany Holden (Schenectady, NY) was a perfect 3-3 from the plate to help GMC cruise to the win. Hillary Dernier (Seattle, WA) had a pair of hits for the Eagles who built a 13-0 lead before giving up a run.
Sarah Tucker (Fairfax, Vt.) continued her hot hitting by going 2-for-3 at the plate and Kathy Kline (Coventry, R.I.) had a pair of singles for Lyndon. Sara Fetterhoff (Jay, Maine) was credited with the loss.
Lyndon reversed the trend in the nightcap, winning its first game of the season 6-0.
Theresa Danforth (Corinth, Vt.) went the distance in Game 2 to lead the Lady Hornets. The junior right-hander allowed only three hits while striking out one and walking three. Meghan Eisenhardt (Hyde Park, Vt.) led the LSC hitting attack with three hits and two runs-batted-in, while Tricia Lussier (Lyndon, Vt.) and Sarah Tucker chipped in two hits each.
Katie Jablonski (West Rutland, VT), Karen Davidson (Seymour, CT) and Cass Neimeth-Lazar (Milan, NY) had one hit each for the Lady Eagles. Brittany Holden, who took the loss, went five innings for GMC, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while fanning two and walking two.
The Eagles return home to face Southern Vermont on Thursday. Game 1 begins at 3:30.
