Badgers, Eagles Split Doubleheader

GAME 1:

Allie Cunningham (Manchester, N.H./Central) threw a complete-game three-hitter including eight strikeouts to help spark Johnson State to a 6-4 North Atlantic Conference softball victory on Friday over visiting Green Mountain College.

Green Mountain (1-3, 0-1 NAC) would take a 4-1 lead after the top of the second but Johnson (4-2, 1-0 NAC) would not allow another run and Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) would score three times as the Badgers rallied for the win in their home opener.  Gervais would finish 2-for-4 on the day while Morgan Rogerson (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen Union) would add an RBI single.

GMC's Brittany Holden (Schenectady, N.Y.) took the loss for Green Mountain while third baseman Gina Lorusso (Franklin, Mass.) had an RBI and run scored.

GAME 2:

Johnson (4-3, 1-1 NAC) could not complete the sweep as Green Mountain (2-3, 0-2 NAC) scored a pair of seventh inning runs to hold off the Badgers 6-5.

Green Mountain's Brittany Holden (Schenectady, N.Y.) pitched the complete game striking out four and went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs score to lead the Eagles.  Emily Heale (East Bethany, N.Y.) and Karen Davidson (Seymour, Conn.) each added two hit each for GMC.

Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) took the loss for Johnson allowing 11 hits while striking out six.  Brittany Lumsden (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen Union) went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored for JSC while freshman Lauren Wallace (Hyde Park, Vt./Lamoille Union) belted her first collegiate home run.

Johnson State will travel to Castleton State tomorrow for a 1 pm doubleheader while Green Mountain will travel to Lyndon on Tuesday for a set of games at 3 pm.
