Gail Schnaars joined the GMC coaching staff in the Fall of 2004.  In one year Schnaars brought the Green Mountain X-Country team from one male runner to two full men's and women's teams.  During the second season of Schnaar's helm, the women's team took 2nd place at the Association of Division III Independents Regional Tournament.  The men took the Runner-Up trophy home in Gail's third season.

Schnaars has completed 38 marathons over the past twenty years - including 9 Boston and 9 NYC marathons.  Schnaars is currently training for the Vermont City Marathon - her fifth one in Burlington. Her personal best is 3:29 set at the Marine Corps Marathon in 1995.  Schnaars also was the 3rd woman overall in the Eriesistable Marathon held in Erie, PA in 2001.  She has also completed numerous half-marathons, 10k's and 5ks.
 
Schnaars has an Early Childhood BS from SUNY Farmingdale and was a pre-school teacher for over ten years.  Originally from Long Island, Schnaars lives in Manchester, VT with her husband Steven.  They have two boys; Paul 27 and John 24.
