Eagles Survive the Heat in Saturday's Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Green Mountain College had four men compete in the 80-degree heat in the Purple Valley Classic 8K race on Saturday afternoon. The meet was packed with some of the country's top runners and programs and a field of 26 programs and 324 competitors. 

The heat took its toll with runners being on the course during the hottest parts of the day. 

Green Mountain was led once again by senior Jacob Nelson (West Barnstable, Mass.) who paced all Eagle runners with his time of 33:01 which placed him in 306th overall. 

Senior Samuel Eisenhaur (South Londonderry, Vt.) bested his time from his first collegiate race last week by 17 seconds to place second for the Eagles with a time of 34:18 which placed him 314th overall. 

Freshman Mason McKnight (Grove City, Pa.) struggled with the heat this week falling several minutes off his usual pace with a time of 38:47. 

Junior Nicholas Lamson close out the contingent of runners for the Eagles by completing the 8K course in a time of 42:38. 

The Eagles will compete in the Vermont State meet in their next race which comes Saturday, September 30 at Middlebury with race time starting at 12:30 pm.
