Eagles Claim Seventh Place Finish in Season Opening Race

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Green Mountain College men's cross country team opened the season with a seventh place finish at the Southern Vermont Mountaineer Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning.

The course was quite rigorous featuring many challenging mountainous climbs along with downhill stretches and field terrain.

Freshman Mason McKnight (Grove City, Pa.) led all Eagle runners with a fourteenth place finish in a time of 20:28 and was followed very closely by senior Jacob Nelson (West Barnstable, Mass.)who placed two places behind McKnight in 16th completing the 5K race in a time of 20:43.

Freshman Cade Terada (Dutch Harbor, Alaska) grabbed a 39th place finish with a time of 26:26, while sophomore Matt D'Arcy (Melbourne, Australia) finished in 41st spot in a time of 26:38.

Freshman Max Newman-Henriquez (Long Beach, N.Y.) closed out the large contingent of Eagle racers with 49th place finish in a time of 28:36.

The Eagles will race again in Vermont next Saturday as they compete in the Castleton Invitational with race time starting at 11:30 am.
