COLCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain College men's cross country competed in the Vermont State Championships at Saint Michael's College on Friday afternoon. Five runners took part in the 8K course and finished 7th overall behind top finishers Middlebury, Norwich and St. Michael's.
Samuel Klockenkemper of Middlebury was the top runner finishing the 8K course in a time of 25:57. Teammate Nathan Hill claimed second finishing at 26:09, while Grandon Smith of Castleton captured third overall with a time of 26:18.
Nicholas Lamson (Montpelier, Vt.) set the pace for the Eagles finishing 60th overall in a season-best time of 34:54, over two full minutes better than his previous best this season. Following Lamson was Devin Balcacer (Houston, Texas) who finished three spots behind him in 63rd overall with his best result of the season in a time of 36:26. Pierce Caldwell (Los Altos, Calif.) finished third for the Eagles shaving nearly a full minute off of his best finish of the season in a time of 36:44 which placed him 64th. DeNaugio Scarlett (Henderson, Nev.) was right behind Caldwell as he earned a 65th place finish in a time of 36:52, nearly four minutes better than his debut last week. Finishing in his best spot of the season was Marjuk Ahmad (Dhaka, Bangladesh) in 74th spot who crossed the finish line in a time of 48:49 improving on his career best by an amazing 11 minutes.
Green Mountain will be idle next week and race again the following Saturday at the Western New England Invitational with a start time of 11:15 a.m.
