RUTLAND, Vt. - Green Mountain men's tennis earned its second North Atlantic Conference victory of the season with its 8-1 win over Johnson State College on Saturday afternoon at the Vermont Sport and Fitness Club.
The Eagles honored four seniors with recognition for their dedication and commitment and presented them with a senior photo and gift. Truman Cressey, Eric Wade, Dakota Dodson and Javier Lugris all celebrated their senior day on Saturday.
Green Mountain (5-5, 2-3 NAC) used a sweep in doubles play to earn an early advantage before taking 5-of-6 singles matches.
Truman Cressey and Kei Sako took the top flight doubles match with an 8-2 victory over Gerrit Lane and partner Alex Harcourt. Second flight doubles was won by the Eagles' duo of Javier Lugris and Dakota Dodson with an 8-3 victory over Brady Rainville and Benjamin Holl. The No. 3 doubles pairing of Eric Wade and Daisuke Kon emerged victorious with an 8-1 decision over Quinn Lambert and Evan Daigneault.
Cressey opened singles play with 6-4, 7-5 straight sets victory over Lane in top flight singles. Sako used a pair of 7-5 set wins to defeat Harcourt in No.2 singles. Wade posted his first singles victory of the season with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Rainville in third flight singles.
Johnson (1-12, 0-6 NAC) received its lone win in fourth flight singles as Holl won a marathon match over Lugris, 6-4, 0-6, 10-5.
Kon and Dodson each used 6-1, 6-3 set wins to defeat their opponents in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots, respectively.
Green Mountain will be back in action tomorrow with a match at MCLA.
