CASTLETON, Vt. – The Green Mountain College men's tennis team surrendered a 9-0 loss to Castleton, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East matchup on Tuesday evening at the Spartan Tennis Courts.
Castleton improves its record to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the NAC East, while Green Mountain drops to 4-3 on the year with a 1-1 mark in league play.
The Eagles opened the day getting swept in doubles, as Seth Marcil and Quentin Barthe teamed up for their 10th doubles win of the season, 8-4, in a victory over Truman Cressey and Kei Sako. Jared Wheeler and Tyler Wilcox were victorious, 8-2, in second-flight doubles over Eric Wade and Pierce Caldwell, while Ryan Mulder and Brody Wagner picked up a win at No. 3 doubles over Javier Lugris and Dakota Dodson, 8-3.
The Eagles continued to struggle in singles play, as all six players dropped their matches in straight sets. Cressey fell in No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-0, while Sako slipped up 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. Wade dropped the third flight, 6-1, 6-0, while Lugris battled tough in a loss at the No. 4 position, 6-3, 6-4. Caldwell was swept, 6-0, 6-0, in fifth-flight singles, while Daisuke Kon rounded out the day with a 6-0, 6-1 loss in the sixth position.
GMC travels to Norwich on Wednesday at 3 p.m. to take on the Cadets in non-conference action in a match postponed from earlier in the season.
