Eagles Narrowly Edged Out by Hornets
Lyndon Center, VT — Green Mountain College men's tennis team match against Lyndon State College went down to the wire as the team lost 5-4 to the host Hornets in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tennis action on Saturday afternoon. The victory improves Lyndon to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the NAC while Saturday's loss moves Green Mountain to 1-6 overall and 0-2 on the season.
In first flight doubles, Tyler Schofield and John Corey bested Christopher Donovan (Bedford, MA) and Samantha Tajirian (Springfield, PA) 8-3. Daniel Weiner and Michael Desmond teamed up to earn an 8-3 win over Andrew O'Neill (Philmont, NY) and Laura McRee (Norwich, VT) in No. 2 doubles before the Eagles' tandem of Sam Snyder (Old Greenwich, CT) and Nicole Cardish (Walden, NY) salvaged a 8-5 win over Wildens Fils and Joe Anderson in third doubles.
Schofield topped Donovan 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles while Tajirian beat Weiner 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 in second singles. Corey earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over McRee in third flight singles and O'Neill topped Fils 8-3 in fourth singles. Snyder defeated Anderson (7-5, 6-0) and Desmond beat Cardish (6-0, 6-0) to close out singles play on the afternoon.
GMC will prepare for another conference road match against Castleton on Wednesday, April 11, at 4;00 p.m., while Lyndon will host another home match, this time against Norwich University on Monday, April 9, at 3:30 p.m.
